Emotional Intelligence Exercise

Q CHAPTER 17 OVERVIEW One of the most striking things about today’s organizations is their reliance on work teams. The trend toward greater reliance on team-based structures is the reason that teamwork competency is one of the six key managerial competencies. The discussion of work team functioning presented in this chapter is intended to help you improve your teamwork competency. OBJECTIVES After studying this chapter, students should be able to: 1. Explain the importance of work teams. 2. Identify five types of work teams. 3. State the meaning and determinants of team effectiveness. 4. Describe the internal team processes that can affect team performance. 5. Explain how to diagnose and remove barriers to poor team performance. I would like each of you to watch the following Simon Sinek (Links to an external site.) video. It is 23 minutes long but a worthy investment in yourself. After you have watched it, let me know your thoughts please.

My results for the emotional intelligence exercise are as follows: 46 for self-awareness, 25 for social awareness, 27 for self-control, and 24 for social skills. The results above were shocking to me because, as an introvert, I expected to perform better in the personal aspects of the exercise than in the social aspects of it. However, it turns out that I am more socially in-tune than I thought. As for what the results mean, they mean that I am slightly above average when it comes to emotional intelligence; out of the possible overall 160 points, I scored a total of 122, which translates to 76%.
